President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Mian Misbahur Rehman has said that the proposed solid waste management plant near Sunder Industrial Estate would not only effect the natural landscape but also create noise pollution apart from hitting the smooth working of industrial units located in the area. In a meeting with Punjab Minister for Environment, Makhdoom Ashfaq Ahmad on Wednesday, he suggested to shift the proposed plant to some other site where there were no chances of industrialisation or development of housing colonies in future.
The minister promised to visit the site proposed for solid waste management plant near Sunder Industrial Estate at Multan Road to make a final decision about establishment of the plant in collaboration with City district government.
LCCI Senior Vice President Sohail Lashari, Vice President Sheikh Mohammad Arshad, LCCI Executive member Mohammad Younas Sheikh and a large number of industrialists were present.
Makhdoom Ashfaq maintained that the government was ready to listen to the genuine problems facing the people and if setting up of the proposed plant in Sunder area would create any sort of problem, the government would definitely consider some alternative. The minister said that the government was conscious of environment hazards and taking necessary steps to keep the environment clean and setting up of state-of-the-art solid waste management plants was part of that strategy, while introduction of CNG culture was also a step in this direction.
