Minister Health Punjab, Dr Tahir Ali Javed, has directed the field staff to implement the policies of health department in letter and spirit and make the campaigns against communicable and non-communicable diseases a great success. He, however, warned the field officers that leniency will not be tolerated and administrative action will be taken against the lethargic, negligent and dishonest officials.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of health department which was attended by Chairman Board of Management Nishter Medical College/Hospital, Abaidur Rehman Roomi, Secretary Health, Sohail Ahmed, DG Health Services Dr Khalid Mahmood Rana, EDO (Health) Multan, Project Director Women Health Project Ms Dr Sabeeha Khurshid and other high ranking officials of the department.
Tahir stressed the need for door-to-door and child-to-child co-ordination and involvement of lady health workers (LHWs) for success of immunisation programme and mother and child health care. He said there was no shortage of TB drugs in DOTs areas and TB DOTs is integrated in district health systems. Diagnosis is done at DHQ/THQ hospitals and RHCs using sputum smear microscopy. Treatment is provided and monitored at BHUs and diagnosis centres. An effective advertisement campaign may be launched regarding the precautionary measures of Hepatitis-B and Hepatitis-C, he maintained.
He said the BoMs of the autonomous medical institutions of the province are independent to run the affairs of their concerned hospitals/colleges according to rules of business formulated by the government.
