A corporation should have a clear vision, a mission, values and a set of code of ethics; to function as an efficient and a vibrant organisation geared to meet the needs of its valued customers. Tariq Kirmani, Chairman of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC), emphasised these principles in his first address to the senior management of the airline.
According to a press release issued here on Thursday, Tariq Kirmani said that all employees of PIA should be involved in evolving these standards and once these are recorded everyone should own these; ensuring adherence to them. Any deviation, thereafter, would entail punitive action, he added.
Referring to the human resource element, the PIAC chairman said no one could deny the significance of this important factor, adding it is the members, which make a family, an organisation or for that matter, a nation, good or not so good. The managers are the leaders in their own right and they should lead from the front.
Tariq Kirmani stressed upon implementation of decisions and policies and said there should be harmony in what one says and practices. He also expressed his belief that if one treats others well the response is always good.
He said there is a great potential in the national airline, which needs to be disciplined for making it a profitable and a great airline, it enjoyed some year back. "We all know that perception is more important than reality and it is the perception of our customers, which needs to be improved", Kirmani added.
"We have to handle our weaknesses first and then make our strong points public", the PIA chairman said and added that apart from the human resource, the areas of marketing, finance and operations need improvement.
He further stated that there is a need to work together as a team and emphasised on training, which, according to him, plays an important role in human resource development of any organisation.
Tariq Kirmani assured the managers that all decisions taken would be fair and honest and in the interest of the corporation. Stressing the significance of two-way communication, he assured to hold regular meetings aimed at critical evaluation of the policies for improving and making the PIA a profitable corporation.-PR
