Matters pertaining to paper setting, examination and marking system were discussed in a meeting of the Conveners of the Board of Studies at Institute of Bio-Chemistry Bio-Technology here on Thursday. Addressing the meeting, Punjab University Vice Chancellor Arshad Mahmood said the university had put premium on practical application of the knowledge the students gained during their stay at the university. The University had revised the curriculum according to modern needs and rote learning had been eliminated from the educational system of the university, he added.
New changes incorporated in the curriculum would enable the students to be leader to face different problems instead of churning out 'baboos', he maintained.
Controller Examination Professor Dr Ehsan Malik said the university administration had improved the examination system a lot. The external students should be given opportunity to see their marked or checked papers, as they had paid examination fee so that they could know where they had committed mistakes, he added.
The meeting observed that question paper must cover the entire syllabus and each question should comprise of various parts. The question paper should move gradually from knowledge to application.
The meeting decided that the practice of distributing notes by the faculty should be discontinued, teaching methodology should be made compatible with the pattern and content of the question paper and paper should comprise of subjective and objective type (subjective of 50-70 percent and objective 30-50 percent.
