Robbie Savage and Blackburn Rovers were again embroiled in controversy after a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, with allegations surfacing that the former Wales international midfielder was involved in a fight with young opposition striker Wayne Routledge in the Ewood Park tunnel at half-time. Wednesday's victory confirmed Blackburn's Premiership status for next season, while pushing Palace a step closer to relegation. But, following last weekend's stormy FA Cup semi-final defeat against Arsenal, Blackburn's behaviour was once again called into question.
Savage was cautioned for a first half foul on Mikele Leigertwood and was lucky to remain on the pitch following several other dubious challenges, especially a trip on Routledge.
Savage also showed the other side of his football personality by laying on the winner for Morten Gamst Pedersen on the stroke of half-time.
But, seconds later, witnesses said Savage and Routledge were involved in an altercation on their way to the dressing rooms.
Palace boss Iain Dowie said: "A few people have criticised Mark's team recently, not me. But there were a few challenges flying around all over the pitch. All I know is one of our young lads was clipped on the ear by a glancing blow on his way up the tunnel.
