The Lahore District Council on Wednesday approved code of conduct for kite-flying, envisaging six-month imprisonment and Rs 5,000 fine on violation of the same. At a meeting held here, Lahore Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood presented draft of the code of conduct prepared in the light of recommendations submitted by a committee, headed by Data Gunj Baksh Town Nazim Tariq Sana Bajwa. Some of the members demanded of the City District Government to totally ban the kite flying in the city.
Responding to this demand, Mian Amer said that if code of conduct failed to control kite-flying accidents, it would be completely banned. The District Officer Environment has been empowered to announce punishment at the spot.
Moreover, the members belonging to Pakistan People's Party, Jamaat-i-Islami and PML (N) boycotted the session in protest against the arrests of PPP workers. An opposition member also presented a resolution to condemn the arrests of PPP workers.
The Presiding Officer, Hamid Hussain Khan said on the occasion that the arrest of political workers was condemnable.
Meeting also accorded approval of new posts for 17 homeopathic dispensaries in the city, which would cost Rs 2.25 million. Members also gave their approval for renaming 150 roads of the provincial metropolis. The meeting also recommended additional one-month salary as honorarium to the employees of the District Council Secretariat and Finance Department of the City government.
Setting up of 7 CNG stations along the Ring Road under Lahore Master Plan was also approved.
