District Nazim Lahore, Mian Amer Mahmood has said that an amount of Rs 20 billion is being spent on construction of various roads including Ring Road in the provincial metropolis. While addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of Government Girls Degree College, Wapda Town, here on Saturday, Amer said that various roads including Main Boulevard, Gulshan Ravi, Ferozepur Road, Multan Road, and approaching roads toward Ring Roads would be upgraded.
The roads project would not only generate economic activities but also ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city, he added. During past regime, only Rs 4.5 billion were spent on construction of roads, he said.
He further said that Dharmpura Underpass is being constructed at a cost of Rs 700 million. Now the people of Lahore would have such a road from G.T. Road to Motorway, which has no traffic signal at all, he added.
About the college, he said the city district government is setting up a girl's college in Wapda Town over an area of 24 kanals at a cost of Rs 40.642 million.
The college construction would be completed by October 22, 2006. Classrooms and laboratories would be established on 20,000 square feet on ground floor and 23,500 square feet on first floor of the college. As a result, the female students would have no need to travel for other areas to get admission, Amer added.
Principal Government Degree College Wahdat Road, Abida Tanvir and Wapda Town General Secretary Noor ul Huda also spoke on the occasion.
