Over the years PERA has helped corporate sector in becoming environmentally responsible by reporting environmental management strategies & policies. Also, continual improvement in environmental reporting will help in meeting regulations and other international standards.
However, there is an inevitability to awaken public about such awards via print and electronic media. Improved media coverage / projection will also encourage organisations to improve their environment, social and economic dimensions of their activities, products and services.
Moreover, the guidelines given by Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) will act as a strong tool for both private and public agencies to promote excellence in sustainability reporting of their respective management systems.
However, environmental reporting by the companies has not shown a remarkable increase since year 2002.Effective capacity building and skill development of the employees should be initiated in the organisations to improve the quantity and quality of the reports prepared for PERA.
Nevertheless, these awards will prove to be influential in the development of corporate environment reporting in Pakistan in years to come.
