I am delighted to learn that the Pakistan readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Associations (PRGMEA) is holding the 7th Export Excellence Awards Ceremony to give away trophies to those exporters who have excelled in obtaining highest FOB value in respective textile quota categories and non-quota items on the basis of their 2004 performance.
Needless to say, my government gives the highest priority to maximising exports, and it can only view with satisfaction any efforts made by the manufacturers, exporters and their associations towards that end. Their performance has been more than praiseworthy.
Pakistan is proud of the achievements of its manufacturing sector for having exported goods worth over US $ 12.0 billion in 2003-04, and is comfortably heading to export US $ 14.0 billion worth of goods by the end of financial year 2004-05. This is a laudable achievement for the Textile Sector, whose earnings represent over 65% of the total foreign exchange earnings of the country.
The WTO free trade regime has already paved the way for attracting world-wide buyers by offering qualitative and competitive products. The advanced countries are also insisting on compliance of social requirements for labourers and workers. These challenges are, indeed, very demanding. Hopefully the exporting community is conscious of this and will continue adding to Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves.
On behalf of the Government of Pakistan and on my own behalf, I congratulate, PRGMEA and the Export Excellence Award Trophy winners.
