I am glad to know that the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Associations (PRGMEA) holding its 7th Export Excellence Awards ceremony to present trophies to ten top exporters of Readymade Garments. The awarding of 27 other trophies to those exporters who have obtained the highest value added FOB price in respective categories as against national average price on all Pakistan basis as determined by the Export Promotion Bureau for exports to EU, USA, Canada and Turkey.
It is indeed a memorable occasion as these Awards encourage our exporters and textile sector activities, which is very vital for development of economy of Pakistan. The Textile sector contributes over 67 percent of our export earning but still a lot of room is available for export expansion in the value-added readymade garment sector.
I would like to emphasis that due to globalisation and emerging WTO's decisions of free trade shall require far reaching reforms in developing countries for integration with the world economy.
On behalf of the Ministry of Textile Industry, I assure you that we are already taking all possible measures to meet the challenges arising due to WTO regime. Textile Ministry established with the aims to solve problems and review grievances faced by the Textile sector in quality production and global marketing.
I would like to take this opportunity to say that Pakistan has achieved economic sovereignty under the able leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. It is also a matter of great satisfaction that the Textile Sector has invested around $4 billion in upgrading all sub-sectors of Textile Industry and preparing itself ready for availing the opportunities provided by free quota regime.
I wish to congratulate the PRGMEA and its managing committee and members for organising this prestigious event, which will encourage the Awards winners and all the others to work harder towards achieving higher goal in the textile sector.
