The efforts of Sir Adamjee Haji Dawood were widely appreciated by the Lieutenant General Sahibzada Yaqub Khan (Retd) at the launching ceremony of the book 'The Merchant Knight-Adamjee Haji Dawood.' The chief guest said that the book was not only the biography but also the history of the Muslims of the sub-continent. Adamjee offered sacrifices at every stage of life, he said.
Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah lauded Adamjee's services and his achievements were characterised by courage and self-sacrifice, Yaqub Khan said and added that at the time of partition, Adamjee, his family and community, offered assistance at every step and in every possible way to overcome Pakistan's financial difficulties.
He gave personal bank guarantee to Habib Bank for the loan from India and came to Karachi for the establishment of the State Bank of Pakistan, Yaqub Khan said.
"At Calcutta he founded the Memon Educational and Welfare Society in 1933 and in 1934 set up Memon Relief Society. At the time of earthquake in Quetta, he carried out relief operations."
Ashraf Adamjee in his address said that Sir Adamjee was a liberal man and adjusted himself to the changing social and economic landscape.
"He played a major leadership role among Memon community in particular and among Muslims in general," Ashraf said, adding Sir Adamjee founded business houses and various social institutions that have lasted till today.
President All Pakistan Memon Federation, Kassam Habib Khanani said that it was the desire of Quaid-e-Azam to organise Muslim businessmen on one platform and Adamjee made it possible.
The Quaid-e-Azam invited him from Calcutta for important consultations on financial and economic polices for Pakistan, Khanani added.
