During his visit to New Delhi, President Pervez Musharraf had asked the Indian government leaders to look at the causes why their imports from Pakistan had not registered any increase. The Foreign Office spokesman said here on Monday that the President, during discussions on trade relations, had made the suggestions and expressed desire for a preferential trade agreement between Pakistan and India.
Spokesman Jalil Abbas Jilani said that President Musharraf had said that the two countries should examine the question before a preferential trade agreement between them was signed.
He said there were issues relating to the tariffs and some bureaucratic hurdles that restrained Pakistan's exports to India.
Pakistan wanted that such hurdles should be removed so that "our products get a proper access to the Indian markets," he added.
