Speaker National Assembly, Chaudhry Amir Hussain has reiterated the firm resolve of the government to curb terrorism and condemned it in all its forms and manifestations. He was talking to the President of People's National Assembly of Algeria and parliamentary leaders of different groups in the Algerian Parliament. He gave his Algerian counterpart a detailed briefing on various steps Pakistan had taken to curb terrorism in the country.
"As a coalition partner in war against terror, Pakistan under the leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf, has been actively participating to eliminate terrorist activities," he added.
A 13-member delegation of National Assembly led by Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain arrived in Algiers, Algeria on April 23 at the invitation of President of People's National Assembly of Algeria, Amar Saadani. The Speaker held meeting with the President of People's National Assembly of Algeria at the National Assembly that was followed by general discussions between the parliamentary delegations of both the countries.
Amir Hussain also extended invitation to his Algerian counterpart to visit Pakistan along with his delegation. Separate meetings were also held with the Heads of different parliamentary groups representing various political parties in the people's National Assembly.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain discussed various matters of mutual' interest including bilateral co-operation and exchange of parliamentary delegations, underlining the need for close contacts between the people of both the countries. He briefed the parliament's groups on the current situation and successful functioning of democratic institutions in Pakistan.
He expressed gratitude to the Algerian leadership for a warm welcome and expressed hope that the existing level of relations between the two countries would further strengthen. President of Algerian People's National Assembly and Heads of Parliamentary Groups hoped that the visit of the Speaker National Assembly would go a long way in further strengthening the existing close and cordial ties between the two countries.
