NWFP Chief Minister, Akram Khan Durrani chaired a meeting to review the pace of work on development schemed approved for Kohistan and Malakand districts. The meeting discussed schemes in local government, extension of Sui gas, schemes in schools and literacy, special package, ADP and non-ADP schemes, roads and communication, drinking water, irrigation schemes, health sector, industries and other social sectors. Additional Chief Secretary NWFP and provincial administrative secretaries attended the meeting. The chief minister directed to ensure rapid utilisation of resources to put efficient services on ground in all sectors and added that no leniency would be tolerated in this regard.
He directed to immediately release Rs10 million for the gas extension to various localities.
He also directed to ensure up-gradation of various educational institutions, construction of additional rooms and assured that provision of additional resources for schemes to improve services in social sectors would not be a problem.
Government was considering constructing an education complex in Peshawar keeping in view the mounting demand of people whose children could not get admission in the educational institutions.
The chief minister took strong exception to the inefficiency of various government departments adding that inefficient personnel were not needed. He directed that if some schemes were not feasible then there should be re-appropriation of fund.
He also expressed agreement to various schemes as non-ADP in Malakand and Kohistan and added that services sectors should be made more efficient, the provincial government would generate resources for non-ADP schemes.
The meeting was told that Abazai Irrigation Canal had been approved and the project would be undertaken in phases.
The meeting was told about recruitment of teachers in various cadres that would overcome the staff deficiency in various public sector educational institutions.
