The EOBI pensioners were profoundly happy over the announcement made by the President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf a few months ago for increasing the rate of monthly EOBI pensions from Rs 700 to Rs 1000. Though the announced increase in the pension of the private sector beneficiaries was not tangible even then it was termed "something is better than nothing." It is indeed well nigh impossible for the downtrodden people, specially the aged to make both ends meet in the wake of ever escalating prices.
Both the President and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan are requested to look into the plight of the affected segment of society and sympathise with them on a humanitarian basis by allowing an increase in their pension to a reasonable extent on a priority basis so that they may heave a sigh of satisfaction in these difficult days.
