A two-week technical course on 'entrepreneurial skill development' for female teachers with the assistance of an international technical education institution concluded on Saturday. Teachers from all major cities participated in the course from April 18-29, which was organised by the ministry of education in collaboration with the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technical Education, Philippines. The closing ceremony was held here at the Government Polytechnic Institute for Women, H-8.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Ashraf Qureshi, technical education consultant, said that the specialised education is playing an important role in Pakistan as students associated with such profession could join technical fields like computers, architecture etc.
Zafar Iqbal, Joint Education Adviser of the Ministry of Education, stressed for the need of technical and professional education for women.
He said that the two-week programme would be instrumental in giving opportunity to the students to learn information technology-related skills for improving their technical ability.
The representative of the course, Zahida Shaukat appreciated education standard of the programme, which enabled the participants to learn best international practices pertaining to technical education.
Farida Javed, Principal Polytechnic Institute for Women, said that ministry of education's active participation in such courses would definitely help the students in their practical life. International organisations' assistance will not only guide the students in various fields, but also give confidence to them, she added.
Farida Javed informed the participants that the Polytechnic Institute has played a major role in providing technical education to the female students from all over the country.
She added that the course would definitely improve students' ability to obtain jobs and play their due role in the society.
The co-ordinator and resource person of the programme, Tariq Mahmood said that more technical courses should be organised by different institutions for the capacity building of students. The programme is unique in the sense that it is web-based and provided an opportunity to the female teachers to search for the jobs through Internet.
Later, certificates were distributed among the successful participants of the course.
