Chief Minister Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said the lawyers fraternity is a vital part of society, therefore people should help strengthen lawyers' community for the betterment of society. Addressing the Lawyers Convention organised by the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) lawyer's wing Punjab, Pervaiz observed that there is a close relation between lawyers, government and the executive, and all parties should play their due role.
He said the present government has provided uplift funds across the board, without any discrimination. "There are some rival lawyers in the Bar bodies, but the government, ignoring political rivalry, issued funds for the Bars and will continue to work for the welfare of the lawyers fraternity", he said.
He announced that notification for free treatment of lawyers in all hospitals as well as Punjab Institute of Cardiology has been issued.
He further said that record legislation has been done in the tenure of 30 months, while no ordinance has been issued in this period.
He also announced a 'revolving fund' of Rs 10 million for young lawyers' welfare and promised that, district presidents of PML lawyers wing, would be appointed members of the District Crime Control Committees.
He announced abolishment of the ban on registration of District Bars co-operative Societies, and said that 5 percent quota for lawyers would be fixed in government housing societies and schemes.
He also announced a committee to be headed by Law Minister, Raja Muhammad Basharat, which will prepare recommendations to assign authority of attestation of documents to the lawyers.
Punjab Law Minister, Raja Muhammad Basharat, while addressing the convention, said that there was a so-called barrier between lawyers and the government, which could be removed with the help and efforts of the Chief Minister. He said that some opportunists have created problems and misunderstanding between lawyers and the government, but these will be sorted out, he observed.
Vice chairman Punjab Bar Council, Asghar Gil, Abdul Khaliq Saduzai, president PML Lawyers Wing, former Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, senior vice president Punjab Lawyers wing, Mian Sikandar Hayyat also spoke on the occasion.
