Central President of his own faction Pakistan Peoples Party and Federal Interior Ministers Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, while lauding the spirit of labourers who laid lives in Chicago, said the Labour Day is being observed as a mark of respect to the working classes of the society who rendered meritorious sacrifices for cause of down-trodden classes. He contended that labourers and peasants were the backbone of the national economy and the government would take every appropriate measures to solve their problems. He was addressing a pubic gathering at the residence of Israr Khan, Naib Nazim Union Council Behloli District Charsadda, who along with family and scores supporters resigned from Awami National Party and joined the PPP.
He reposed full confidence in the leadership of Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao.
The Interior Minister said that Pak economy was flourishing and all the industrial units were running on full capacity as a result of dynamic and effective policies of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
He believed that with the pursuance of these policies and viability of all the four federating units, Pakistan could emerge as an economic giant. He said that we strongly adhered to our stance by raising voice for the rights of the provinces, as the prosperity of the provinces was essential for the smooth running of federal democracy and economic stability.
He viewed that the PPP under his leadership had practically demonstrated for this cherished cause and the same was evident from our actions. Aftab Sherpao lashed out at the so-called champions of Pukhtoons rights who hoodwinked the Pukhtoons through hollow slogans.
He recalled that now these elements were targeting Punjab in order to justify their claim for the rights of Pukhtoons but when they had joined hands with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif they were then looking towards Punjab.
He said that the ANP had twice shared power with a leader from Punjab province during the years 1990 and 1996 but unfortunately they had adopted criminal silence over the rights of Pukhtoons.
The PPP leader alleged that the ANP leadership for having adopted hypocritical attitude in politics as on the one hand they were openly criticising MMA while on the other hand they clandestinely begging for alliance with the MMA in forthcoming local bodies polls.
Aftab Sherpao lashed at MMA for its failure to fulfil its election promises with masses and asked them to deliver the goods to them.
He observed that the people had rejected the so-called million marches and wheel-jam strikes of the MNA due to their wrong policies. He predicted that the MMA call for another round of strike on May 4, would doom to fail like other strikes because the MMA had lost the trust of the masses.
The PPP President decried MMA government for step-motherly treatment meted out to the opposition members in the NWFP assembly.
He resented that the denial of development budgets to the opposition MPAs was also injustice to the people of the are as from where they had been elected.
He said that ADP was lop-sided and billions of rupees had been allocated in the constituencies of Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, Akram Durrani and Siraj-ul-Haq.
He said the little that other districts got was further given to their own MPAs. He said that the opposition MPAs had not been considered in Community Uplift Programme (CUP) which had exposed the Islamic credentials of MMA. The Interior Minister called upon NWFP Governor to take notice of the rising incidents of kidnapping for ransom and the lack of interests in the development by the MMA government.
Aftab Sherpao said that the NWFP Chief Minister had constantly been asking Prime Minister for more funds for the province wherein he only advocated the cause of his own constituency as if he was not the representative of the whole province.
He impressed upon Premier Shaukat Aziz to make clear to Durrani that funds granted from the federal government should transparently be utilised in all parts of the province. He added that the resources from the federal government should be utilized for the development of the whole province, as we would not allow MMA government to further aggravate sense of deprivation amongst other areas.
He said the problems such as sui gas and electricity of the area would soon be resolved. He welcomed Israr Khan and his companions for joining PPP and said that it was mistrust over the policies of the ANP and confidence in PPP.
