Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Asif Ali Zardari has said if voted to power, the party would abolish all draconian anti-labour laws. "None on earth can deter Benazir Bhutto from coming to the motherland and the entire Pakistan will accord her a warm welcome on return," he affirmed. Addressing a big labour rally here at the Laxmi Chowk on Sunday, Zardari said the bond of relationship between the labour community and Shaheed Bhutto could never break, as even after 26 years of his physical death the working class is raising the slogans of Shaheed Bhutto in Lahore even today. Thousands of labourers took out the rally from Railway Station to Laxmi Chowk on hundreds of vehicles in connection with May Day.
Zardari told the rally that peoples party's prime crime in the eyes of the rulers was the provision of employment to the unemployed during its tenure. He also invited the labour community to take more active part in the struggle for restoration of democracy for it would ensure complete restoration of their rights, which had been snatched by anti-labour rulers.
The PPP leader said labour community had been the worst victim during last eight years, as they were dismissed from jobs, factories were closed down and draconian anti-labour laws were imposed to squeeze them economically.
"Roti, Kapra Aur Makan is our slogan and will remain so till a single person is there having none of the basic human needs. Though we don't want any injustice to the investors yet we won't allow them to snatch the rights and exploit the labour under any circumstances and make it clear that with the PPP all powers rest with the people."
Zardari said the current year is the last year for the rulers while the next year will be Peoples' Year. He saluted the mothers and sisters of those PPP workers who are in jail in struggle for restoration of democracy. Zardari observed that Lahore would remain citadel of the PPP despite the arrests of the party workers.
Others who were present at the labour rally, included Jehangir Badr, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Qasim Zia, Abdul Qadir Shaheen, Haji Azizur Rehman Chan, Malik Sher Ahmed, Syed Khalid Bukhari, Khalid Kharal.
