Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said that Karachi will be made a city of scenic beauty and harmonised with modern requirements of construction and housing sector. "Instead of building this city as a jungle of concrete or a settlement with haphazard directions, a vision is being pursued to make it civilised and fascinating." He was addressing a reception given by the Association of Builders and Developers at Abad House here on Saturday night. Dr Ishratul Ibad said that construction of high-rises in the city is being allowed and Pearl Continental and Sheraton hotels have also been granted permission in this respect.
He said the government is focusing specially on housing sector and both President and Prime Minister have been continuously emphasising upon it.
The Sindh Governor said it was the government's basic responsibility to provide housing facilities to people and co-operation of Abad members will be a source of support for us.
He described freezed land and regularisation as two important issues and said full attention is being paid on their solution. Dr Ishrat informed the builders that laws are being amended to remove the bottlenecks in the way of investment in housing sector and are being made transparent and more facilitating.
He told the builders that at present, there as need for every-level housing and the government is paying full attention for its attainment.
The Governor observed that like other sectors, Karachi has produced quality construction experts and builders who have got their talents and expertise acknowledged in and outside the country.
He assured the builders that attention would be paid on resolving their problems and said he had already taken necessary action by holding a number of meetings in this regard. The Governor said he would now review the same and ensure implementation.
Dr Ishratul Ibad said that like the historic revival of Malir Housing scheme, other housing schemes too would be revived.
"If the law and order is kept conducive, we could keep progress continuing under required targets in all the sectors."
Local Government Advisor, Waseem Akhtar, while speaking on the occasion, stressed on taking full advantage of the services of private sector and experts to overcome the problems faced by housing sector. He said failed steps of the past would not recur.
Abad Chairman, Babar Mirza Chughtai paid tribute to the Governor Sindh on behalf of citizens and entire community of builders for development of city, development activities throughout the province and maintaining law and order.
He highlighted the problems confronting the Abad members in detail and hoped that a leader like Dr Ishratul Ibad alone can solve them.
Later, Chughtai also presented a gold medal to the Governor in recognition to his services.
