An agreement signed between the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and the Karachi Green Bus Company (Pvt) Limited has been terminated for alleged failure of the company to maintain quality and efficiency. The agreement was inked on April 16, 2003 for operation of new large-sized buses on urban routes. A communique from the CDGK dated 30th April 2005 said the bus service gradually deteriorated in terms of quality and efficiency. There also serious mismanagement and lack of proper maintenance of the buses fleet which had resulted into frequent breakdown of bus service. The company's management was also changed without permission of the CDGK.
It also said the CDGK, meanwhile, issued notices from time to time which yielded no result. On the contrary, the deterioration trend of bus service continued, and a stage had come when the bus service was completely suspended. Consequently, a final notice was issued on 5th March 2005, but it was not responded within the stipulated period of 7 days or till today.
In accordance of Schedule-I of the Agreement the Karachi Green Bus Company was allocated routes No UTS-4 and UTS-19 and the bus service on the same were initiated by the company.
The notification said the agreement has been cancelled with immediate effect and the directors of the company have been black-listed for their future involvement in urban transport scheme.
