The Anjuman Mazarain Punjab (AMP) has expressed deep concern over the military action against the peaceful protest of tenants in Okara, as a result of which three persons were injured. Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, AMP chairman Liaquat Ali pledged that their struggle would continue till the ownership rights were restored, repeating the slogan "Malki ya Maut". He said on April 21, 2005 the Okara military farms were attacked by police and Ranger. The army cordoned off the area and people were forced to come out of their houses, which created a war-like situation. They also took away their wheat crop on which their livelihood depends, he added.
The helpless tenants blocked the GT Road in reaction, but the army forcing the police logged FIR against 100 tenants on false charges of terrorism, he added.
The provincial government owned the land of Okara and the military had no concern with the ownership, he said.
In the backdrop of national coverage to the issue, the military tried to displace the poor tenants from their native land, he added.
