Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Sunday accused Pakistan Peoples Party of creating hurdles in opposition's joint struggle for the restoration of democracy and 1973 Constitution. "PPP is playing in the hands of the government and weakening the opposition's unity against the undemocratic rule," MMA Deputy Secretary General Liaquat Ballot said while addressing a huge gathering at Jamat-e-Islami annual member's convention. Liaquat Ballot, who is also Amir Jamaat-i-Islami Punjab, said that PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari after spending eight years in jail has become the prisoner of General Musharraf's enlightened moderation.
He warned PPP leaders, terming it a pro-Musharraf party, that their double standards would bring no good to the party, as well as the country and the people.
The MMA central leader lashed out at the government for improving trade ties with the India and neglecting the core issues like Kashmir and dams. Liaquat Ballot claimed that recent normalisation of Pak-India relations were a conspiracy of the US, as America wanted to create cracks in Pakistan's relations with China and Iran and was attempting to persuade Islamabad to back India for permanent membership in UN Security Council.
"Both India and the USA are conspiring to deprive Pakistan of its nuclear capability and wanted to develop cowardice and a sense of weakness in Pakistan. India does not want Pakistan to develop Gwadar port, nor US wants Chinese assistance in this mega project," he added.
Liaquat Ballot alleged that civil and military bureaucracy by implementing pre-independence suppressive techniques have barred democracy to flourish in the country.
He went on saying that the government was ruining the national economy, and artificial price-hike and crash of stock market all refer to government's total collapse, adding: "ruling party members are involved in all these anti-development activities." The MMA deputy secretary general said their anti-government campaign would concentrate on; getting rid the country from dictatorial regime, restoration of 1973 Constitution, freedom of the parliament and change of system in the country. Referring to May Day, Liaquat Ballot said working class would receive nothing from the systems of Moscow and Washington, "but only Islam will pay them adequate wages of their labour."
Speaking on the occasion, the NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah said MMA victory was not temporary, but it would sustain the public mandate it received in last general elections. He said the NWFP government has initiated various development projects across the province.
"We have already started construction of 22 hospitals with 500-bed capacity, a fund of Rs 500 million has been set up for healthcare, 20,000 unemployed youths are being imparted technical education and vulgarity and obscenity have been rooted out of the society," the NWFP minister added.
Earlier speaking on upcoming local bodies' elections, MNA Mian Aslam said the MMA would not allow the corrupt rulers to plunder public rights with the assistance of corrupt bureaucracy.
