Punjab PML-N President Sardar Zulfiqar Khan Khosa has said the present government has completely failed in providing relief to common man and resolving the problems of industrial workers and agricultural labourers. Addressing a seminar, organised by the Punjab PML (N) Labour Wing, in connection with the May Day, here on Sunday, he said the present government was following anti-workers' policies, and it had no interest in resolving the problems of working class.
"The present rulers have neither any interest in religion nor in the commands of Allah and the Holy Prophet (SAW)," he remarked.
Recalling the achievements of Mian Nawaz Sharif, he said that as prime minister he (Nawaz) did a lot for the well-being of workers and down-trodden segments of society. "Mian Nawaz Sharif restored the dignity of labour, and gave them their due status in society", he claimed.
Khosa also announced that the PML (N) Labour Wing will be given representation in the district level party offices besides, considering granting them tickets to contest the upcoming local bodies elections.
Criticising the amendments made to the Industrial Relations Ordinance-2002, Khosa said that his party would struggle for getting such changes repealed.
On the occasion, PML (N) central leader Siddiqul Farooq said the present rulers were quite ignorant of the problems of common man who was suffering severely due to sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities.
He said due to bad policies of the present rulers, the poor was becoming poorer, and added that at present, 80 percent people of the population of the country were very poor while 50 percent were living below poverty line.
He said during the tenure of Nawaz Sharif, a number of steps were taken to improve living conditions of industrial workers and farming community, adding that Mian Nawaz Sharif distributed 1.6 million acres of land among the landless farmers and launched Green Tractor Scheme for the agriculture sector.
Other leaders of PML (N), including Rana Tanvir Hussain, Asad Ashraf, Syed Mushtaq Hussain Shah, Malik Nadeem Kamran and Ayesha Javed Malik also addressed the function and highlighted the significance of May Day.
They also paid tributes to the martyrs, who laid down their lives in 1886 in Chicago for the cause of workers, and demanded of the government to stop victimisation of trade union leaders.
At the end of the seminar, the participants passed a resolution demanding restoration of true democracy in the country, repealing the amendments to the Industrial Relations Ordinance-2002, and accelerating struggle to bring Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif back home.
