The State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Ali Asjad Malhi, has said that a special youth training programme has been initiated in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad for producing a large number of skilled and trained force in the field of information technology (IT) in the country. He said this training programme would also be extended to other major cities of the country, adding the government had focused its special attention on the promotion of IT and many concrete steps had already been taken in this regard.
In an interview with Business Recorder here on Saturday evening, Ali Asjad said the government was utilising huge funds on the promotion and expansion of information technology on top priority basis in the country.
He said: "We have developed Urdu software to facilitate the users, and this software would provide the facility of English translation.
The minister said that more than two million telephone connections would be provided to the people during the current year in the country, adding all villages and far-off areas would be provided the facility of telephone within a year. Besides, radius of Internet facility was being expanded at the village level in the country, he said.
Ali Asjad said the Wireless Local Lope (WLL) system would be operational during the current month in district Sialkot.
The minister also said that in order to inter-link the government departments the "e-government" was being introduced besides "Data Centre" was also being developed in the country, and work on both projects would be accomplished within a stipulated period.
