A trade exhibition opened here with fanfare and resolve for the promotion of women entrepreneurship at the University of Peshawar on Monday. The exhibition is a joint venture of Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WCCI) NWFP chapter and Small & Medium Entrepreneurs Development Authority (Smeda). A total of 40 stalls have been established in the PUTA Hall on University Campus displaying domestic products of the women entrepreneurs. The stallholders are including different women entrepreneurs and non-governmental organisations.
NWFP Minister for Information Asif Iqbal Daudzai was the chief guest at the inaugural function of exhibition. Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), President, Tribal Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TACCI) President, Smeda Provincial Chief Haji Ghulam Ali, Muhammad Tariq and WCCI NWFP chapter Convener Farah Naz were present in the function.
Speaking on the occasion, NWFP Minister for Information Asif Iqbal Daudzai appreciated the efforts of women entrepreneurs saying that holding such exhibitions was necessary for recognition of domestic skill of womenfolk. He added such functions would also help quell the bad impression about that part of the country.
He said some vested interest launched nefarious propaganda of Talibanization in the NWFP just after the establishment of MMA government in the province. However, he said the policies of provincial government had succeeded in quelling the impression and converting NWFP into a model peaceful province of the country.
The minister also called the attention of participants towards first ever investment conference in NWFP aiming the utilisation of the potentials of the province and paving way for bringing an industrial revolution.
He agreed with the demands of the presidents of chambers regarding the establishing of a special display center for women entrepreneurs to promote the work of local women. He said such display centers would not only be established in NWFP and other parts of the country, but also in other countries.
Later, the minister inaugurated the WCCI Trade Exhibition. The NWFP Information Minister accompanied by Farah Naz, Haji Ghulam Ali, Malik Niaz Ahmad, Haji Mamoor Khan and others also visited different stalls and exchanged views with women entrepreneurs.
