Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Amin Faheem has stressed to immediately hold free and fair elections this year. Commenting on the statement of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that general elections would be held some time in 2008, he said People's Party never thought of worsening the situation. It was government itself that worsened the situation on the return of Asif Ali Zardari. "I think the elections should essentially be held this year because assemblies have become merely a rubber stamp and it does not make any difference if Chaudhry Shujaat speaks of holding elections in 2008 or 2010".
Prominent MMA leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman said, "Holding of elections in 2007 is however a constitutional requirement. I do not think as how Chaudhry Shujaat thinks of violating the constitution. I do not know what does he mean saying elections may be delayed beyond 2007 in case of worsening situation. I do not consider this statement worth commenting on".
