Motorola, the world's second-biggest maker of mobile handsets, almost bought the ailing mobile phones business of Germany's Siemens but the deal failed at the last minute, a newspaper reported. Documents for a complete sale of the loss-making unit were prepared and ready for signature last Monday before the US company changed its mind, Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung said on Wednesday, citing sources at Siemens. It gave no reason why the deal fell through.
The German engineering giant, which has been looking for a buyer or partner for its handsets unit for several months at least, declined to comment on the report, as did Motorola.
