"Occupational health and safety at workplace as well as good working conditions are government's primary concern", said Syed Hakim Ali Shah Bukhari, director-general, National Institute of Labour Administration and Training (NILAT), here on Wednesday. He was speaking at the inaugural session of the seminar on "Occupational Health and Safety", organised by NILAT in collaboration with the All Pakistan Trade Union Congress (APTUC). Bukhari also said that this seminar would help enhance knowledge and awareness among the participants, including government officers, trade union leaders, employers, representatives of NGOs, women organisations, and media.
Both the management and the workers, he said, must change their attitude to secure better environment at the workplace to improve employees' efficiency and enhance industrial productivity.
NILAT Director Syed Ghayoor Hassan said it was very important to create awareness, which would lead to reduction of industrial accidents, better healthcare of workers, and congenial workplace atmosphere.
APTUC Secretary-General Shaukat Ali said that safety was the most important aspect of the working life and services connected with it, which should be provided in an adequate manner.
Labour Joint Director C.L Nankani, Engr. Syed Ali Ashraf, Labour Department Technical Inspector Noorul Huda, NILAT Faculty Member Dr Asad Jamal presented papers on the occasion.
