A lot has been written in the newspapers about the on-going construction work at Schon Circle. I would like to congratulate the City Government, the Karachi Port Trust and the Frontier Work Organisation in particular for the speed with which they are carrying out the work round the clock.
A word of special appreciation is also due to the Traffic Police for the efficient manner in which they have handled the traffic diversions to cause minimum hardships to the public and avoid traffic jams.
However, it would have been better if, with a bit of pre-planning and foresight, the shifting of services had been done before the commencement of the work on the main project. At present, all the traffic from the main road is diverted to service roads which have also been dug-up for shifting the services.
This has resulted in traffic congestion which could have been easily avoided if the shifting of services had been completed and the service roads re-carpeted before commencing work on the main project so that the diverted traffic could have used the service roads without any difficulty.
It is still not too late and I request the authorities concerned to take steps to fill up and re-carpet the dug up service roads urgently.
