The Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) has termed the government's announcement allowing import of cattle and food items an attempt to hoodwink people. PML-N Central Information Secretary Muhammad Siddique-ul-Farooque, in a statement here on Wednesday, said Pakistani traders had already imported 70,000 tonnes of onions from India and thousands of tonnes of garlic and ginger from China during the last two months. He said the private sector had not imported those items in time onions would had been sold at over Rs 50 per kilogramme.
He said scarcity of those items was the consequence of most foolish agricultural and economic policies of the government.
He said if the government was sincere in providing relief to the middle and poor class citizens it ought to cut petroleum, gas and power rates by at least 50 percent and reduce sales tax levy by five percent.
He said it was the only way to bring down inflation, adding reducing prices of a few items at the utility stores was of no use, because most of the people did not shop at those stores.
