Normalisation of relations between India and Pakistan has resulted in increase in economic and trade activities between the two countries, having positive impacts on economic situation of the two sides, said Sapna Tiwari, Commercial Attache of Indian High Commission, here on Friday. She was talking to president and senior executives of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) during her visit to the chamber. Chamber President Najam Rehan and other executives received the Indian diplomat.
Sapna Tiwari said that India was a big market and being neighbouring country, business community of Pakistan would get huge benefits after entering Indian markets. She added that there were vast opportunities of trade links between the two Kashmirs and two Punjabs, which are very close to each other.
She stressed the need of close trade links between Pakistani Punjab and Indian Punjab and said that both the areas were hubs of trade and business activities of the two sides so that trade activities in these two regions would bring people more closer.
She said Pakistani cotton and ornaments were very popular in India and similarly there were various Indian products having good demand in Pakistani market.
The Indian diplomat said that her country was exporting livestock to many countries in the world, and for Pakistan, importing livestock from India would prove beneficial for it, as it would be cheaper than importing from other countries.
She invited the RCCI leaders and business community of Pakistan to the joint centennial function of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi Chambers of commerce to be held in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian occupied Kashmir.
She said that very soon a delegation of experts of precious stones would visit Pakistan.
She told that Indian High Commission would have a detailed meeting with industrialists and businessmen of Rawalpindi region, to get first hand knowledge about production and quality of industrial products, and their scope in Indian market.
She was of the view that normalisation had opened new vistas of co-operation in economic and trade between the two countries.
"It is now responsibility of the business community of two sides to get benefits of this co-operation and increase it to huge extent," she said adding there are still vast opportunities of co-operation in trade and economic sector, which would have positive impacts on economy of two countries.
"We are making a close liaison with the chambers of commerce and industry in Pakistan to bring the chambers of two countries close for better trade and commerce activities," she said.
RCCI President Najam Rehan and other senior executives of chamber also spoke on the occasion and briefed the Indian diplomat about the industrial production in Rawalpindi region.
