All Pakistan Exporters Association of Mineral Mining and Processing (APEAMMP) and the International Marble Institute (IS.I.M) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on technical support to boost the marble mining sector in Balochistan and NWFP. According to MoU, which was signed here, Italy will set up a model quarry and training institute in Pakistan. The organisations of both the countries would exchange the mutual expertise to develop the marble sector in Pakistan. The IS.I.M, which is an Italian multipurpose and non-profit training and research institute for dimensional stone technology, would also transfer the machinery worth Euro 200,000 to Pakistan.
The delegation of Italy assured the host country of its technical assistance, in order to augment the sector in Pakistan. Italy co-operation is two-folded and based on training of the local personnel to operate the machines that Italy would possibly provide.
Shahab Khawaja, Chief Executive Officer, Smeda, Bakhtiar Khan, Provincial Chief Balochistan, Muhammad Tariq, Provincial Chief Smeda, NWFP and Humair Z. Maniar, Chairman APEAMMP were also present at the time of signing of MoU.
On this occasion, Shahab Khawaja said that the marble sector had great potential to reduce poverty and unemployment. Government was fully committed to develop this sector, as it would help in boosting country's economy, he added.
He said the environment for investment was quite suitable and he invited the Italian delegation to invest in other sectors also. He assured the visiting team of all possible support.
Tariq Khan said the marble of Buner was famous all over the world due to its supreme quality. That's why the Italy had showed its interest to invest in this sector and also share benefits that would come from the mining.
