Federal Minister for Industries Production and Special Initiative, Jehangir Khan Tareen, has asked the Health Department Punjab to facilitate Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) in the matter pertaining to recognition and affiliation by Punjab Medical Faculty for LHV and Clinical Assistant programmes. In a meeting called by the Federal Minister, prior to his departure abroad, he asked the PVTC management to introduce Lady Health Visitor (LHV) programme in each of its rural VTIs in the province. He also directed to take steps to overcome the shortage of teaching staff by deploying doctors working with the Basic Health Units at the village level.
Expressing satisfaction over the infrastructure, faculty and facilities being offered by the VTI run by PVTC to train Mustahqeen-e-Zakat as Clinical Assistants. He added that this infrastructure could easily be adapted to train Lady Health Visitors in rural areas.
Federal Minister also asked Chairman PVTC Sikandar Mustafa Khan to expand Clinical Assistant Course to other rural areas. Chief Executive Officer PVTC Muhammad Saeed Khan informed the minister that duration of Technical Assistant course is 12 months. As many as 24 VTIs are offering this course to the Mustahqeen-e-Zakat and total enrolment till date is around 1700.
The minister also formed a two-member committee, consisting of the CEO PVTC Mohammed Saeed Khan and CEO Punjab Rural Support Programme (PRSP) Farooq Haroon to visit VTIs in rural areas.
