Government College University (GCU) Lahore is providing nursery to the national teams of all games and would take all out steps to promote sports and extra curricular activities. The Vice-chancellor GC University Lahore Professor Dr Khalid Aftab announced this at the prize distribution ceremony held here on Friday in connection with the IInd Pakistan Universities Games held in Islamabad. "All outstanding girl players and athletes would be given admission to graduate and postgraduate levels on sports basis in the GC University from the coming session.
The GCU players got 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 9 bronze medals in these competitions", he said. He also awarded a cash award of Rs 6,000 to each gold medallist, Rs 4,000 to silver medal winners and Rs 2,000 to each bronze medal winner. He also gave cash awards to the coaches of the medal winning teams and appreciated the excellent performance of the Sports Board and its Director Pervaiz Saeed Mir.
The Chairman Sports Board Professor Dr Amin-ul-Haq said that 130 sportsmen and athletes of GCU participated in the IInd All Pakistan Universities Games. He also said the GCU teams were the only one against which no eligibility protest was lodged. He appreciated the untiring efforts of the coaches and their excellent training to the sportsmen.
Pervaiz Saeed Mir appreciated the vice-chancellor's decision of inducting sportswomen at graduate and postgraduate levels. He said that getting 3rd position among 65 universities of the country is a great achievement.
