People travelling in different route transports in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are facing problems due to rude behaviour, over-charging and non-completion of the routes by public transport owners. Police and local administration are looking helpless in the hands of transporters and despite public complaints all is going in vain. People expressed concern over the indifferent attitude of police officials and said that in spite of frequent complaints no action had been taken against the responsible drivers and conductors of certain public transports.
"Police officials after greasing their palms are observed over-looking the rude behaviour of conductors and drivers with the civil citizens and the presence of police on the roads is only to collect monthly," said Zaheer Ahmed, a citizen working in Rawalpindi Saddar.
He said that drivers and conductors on various occasions manhandled commuters but police was not taking any action against the vehicle staffers. The police attitude, limited only to get Rs 100 from the driver, has encouraged drivers and they are taking liberty in any type of excess they like, he added.
"Non completion of routes is order of the day now, which is depriving many people of reaching their offices in time," said Rehana Akhtar, an employee in Pak Secretariat, Islamabad.
"I am regular commuter from Rawalpindi to Islamabad. But the non completion of route by transporters is causing lot of problems for me and other employees," she said, adding that this matter was brought to in the notice of police high ups but they were looking helpless.
"Varan was a good transport service, which fell pray to the conspicuous attitude of transporters and administration," she said adding that from the day Varan closed its service transporters became more arrogant and administration indifferent. Several government employees, who are regular commuters, have complained that driver and conductors of the said coach were rude and abusive and overcharge them.
