Welcoming the British Labour Party third consecutive victory in the parliamentary elections, former AJK premier and leader of the opposition in Legislative Assembly Barrister Sultan Mehmud Chaudhry has expressed the optimism that Prime Minister Tony Blair will fulfill his obligations with regard to Kashmir. Talking to a private TV channel, Sultan said that India and Pakistan could be the second and third party to the Kashmir issue but Kashmiris were the first party to this lingering dispute of more than five decades.
Referring to the labour party victory, he said that the issue was created by this party and it was in its manifesto that it will work for the resolution of the Kashmir issue. Now as the party has won the election, it was its foremost priority to settle this dispute on permanent basis, he added. "Blair had promised that his government will work for the resolution of the Kashmir issue if his party came to power again", he said and added that now the time has come that Blair fulfill his obligations.
Britain was in a position to resolve this issue which has become a nuclear flashpoint, he commented. Sultan emphasised that Kashmir was the core issue between Pakistan and India and peace and stability in South Asia was impossible without the resolution of this issue.
