Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr Atta-ur-Rehman has said series of lectures by world's known professors will be initiated in all public universities through satellite by the end of this year. In an interview to private TV channel, he said students will be able to listen live lectures by professors in which they can also ask questions from them. Besides this, the chairman said top quality of video conference facility will also be provide to all public sector universities by the end of October this year.
To share experiences among each other all universities have been linked with fiber links, he added. Dr Atta said about 60 universities have been connected through radio.
Replying to a question he said government has started indigenous Ph.D. development and research programme to improve quality of education. To another question, he said measures are being taken to improve standard of education and make it accessible to all.
He said federal government with the collaboration of provinces is taking steps to close illegal universities operating in the country.
For the time being, he said to give wake up call to students and their parents, HEC has published names of illegal universities in newspapers.
He further said, substandard universities have been asked to improve their facility before January 2007. Substandard universities will be closed if they failed to improve their facility, he warned.
