US oil giant ChevronTexaco Corp said Monday that it is changing its name to Chevron Corp, effective immediately. The company said its ticker symbol, CVX, will stay the same. The San Ramon, California-based energy giant said that it has also redesigned its corporate logo and will introduce the new logo over the next few months. "Today, we are a leading global energy company built on the strengths and proud traditions of all our predecessor companies," said chairman and chief executive David O'Reilly. "We have a large global footprint in key energy basins of the world. To convey a clear, strong and unified presence across the 180 markets where we do business, we are adopting a single corporate identity."
The name ChevronTexaco came after California-based Chevron acquired Texaco in 2001 for some 35 billion dollars, becoming the second largest US oil and gas firm.
