The recently constituted Development Working Party (DWP) of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) approved seven projects worth Rs 200 million in its third meeting on Tuesday. However, two projects costing more than Rs 300 million were deferred due to lack of technical information till the next meeting of the body scheduled to be held on May 24, sources told Business Recorder. Talking to this scribe, senior CDA official said that out of nine development projects only seven were approved.
Chairman CDA, Kamran Lashari chaired the meeting while the joint secretaries, financial advisor and deputy financial advisors of the interior ministry, finance division, three members of planning division besides all CDA Board members attended the meeting.
Giving details, the CDA official said the projects approved by the meeting, included improvement of lighting system at kids play areas and playgrounds of Islamabad costing Rs 7.470 million, construction of car parking lot, widening of roads and procurement of six golf carts for kids amusement at Daman-e-Koh, Rs 21.636 million, establishment of sit out places in all sectors/commercial centres of Islamabad, Rs 31.078 million, conducting review study of Islamabad Master Plan, Rs 8.240 million, modification of Capital's traffic signals, Rs 10.194 million, providing air-conditioned system at Jinnah Convention Centre committee rooms, Rs 10.649 million, up-gradation of G-6 Sunday Bazaar, Rs 105.78 million.
The two projects namely, construction of additional lane at the Faysal Avenue from Zero Point to Faysal Mosque, Rs 285.965 million and development of a picnic spot at the Rawal Lake water resort have been deferred till next meeting, the official sources added.
The sources said that material provided to the CDA DWP by the concerned directorate regarding the above-mentioned development projects was insufficient due to which it was decided to defer these schemes till fifth meeting likely to be held on May 25.
According to detail, the CDA Chairman directed the Directorate of Electrical to immediately start installation of lights emitting diodes (LEDs) at traffic signals and countdown meters at all the major roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
The sources revealed that the Development Working Party also gave principal approval to upgrade, reconstruct G-6 Sunday Bazaar at Aabpara on modern lines under which shops of different sizes would be built.
Nominal rates would be charged from the owners, who had already been allotted stalls in the bazaar.
Under the proposed plan, identical shops would be built and the same colour signboards would be displayed on all these shops to give them a festive look, official said.
Besides F-6 and F-7 Markaz, sit out arrangements are also being made at almost all the sectors and commercial places to facilitate the public and shoppers.
It is worth mentioning here that the CDA DWP has finally approved the review of Master Plan since UK-based consultant (MMP) has awarded the contract five months back, official said.
The consultant has already submitted a Master Plan of Zone IV to the Planning Wing.
Despite having centralised air-conditioned system, the CDA DWP has approved a pilot project to install separate air-conditions or split units in about eight committee rooms of Jinnah Convention Centre for holding official meetings.
