District Assembly Multan, chaired by Malik Muhammad Amer Dogar, has adopted a resolution for the release of ex-Mayor of Multan Malik Salahuddin Dogar, District President of PPP Khalid Hanif Lodhi and former federal minister Malik Mukhtar Ahmed Awan saying that their detention is unjust and unfair. Home secretary Punjab has detained them for 90 days under MPO-3 when they were planning to proceed to Lahore for the reception of Asif Ali Zardari.
The District Assembly also adopted a number of other resolutions demanding extension in the tenure of the existing local bodies' institutions and withdrawal of cases against the Nazimeen.
One nazim Imtiaz Gulzar Chattan tendered his resignation as protest against the expulsion of 50 students of SSC from Pilot Secondary School. However, later he withdrew his resignation under the pressure of the house.
They said that since there was no provision of appointment of administrators in local bodies' institutions there was no justification to remove the nazimeen without election of the next nazimeen. The house also condemned the police excesses against the journalists on the eve of World Press Freedom Day and expressed solidarity with the pressmen.
