I am delighted to assume the charge of the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on August 25th 2004. Poland and Pakistan have always enjoyed affable ties since long. On the auspicious occasion of the anniversary of promulgation of the National Day of Poland, the 214th historic May 3rd 1791 Constitution, I take this opportunity to convey my best wishes for every success to the government and people of Pakistan in all areas of personal and national importance.
It is with great satisfaction to me that since establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Pakistan in 1962 our mutual co-operation in many fields has been steadily progressing. In the recent years high level government and parliamentary delegations have been exchanged, creating atmosphere conducive to mutual co-operation in all spheres. Poland has contributed to industrialisation of Pakistan building sugar plants, saw mills, wood processing plants and co-operating in the exploration of energy resources, construction of power stations and steel plants. Solid trade contacts have been established. Both our governments and business communities always shared the view that the commercial exchange and economic co-operation is the real substance of country to country relations.
Pakistan with its great potential has remained as one of our very important economic partners for many years in Asia. The trade relations between Poland and Pakistan for more than half a century have always endeavoured for the further strengthening of existing relations. Due to the political and economic reforms in Poland and economic liberalisation in Pakistan, we remain optimistic about the expansion of trade between the two countries.
I would like to highlight some important features of the political and economic events, taking place in Poland, for example, the strategic locations in central Europe, EU membership on 1st May 2004, steady economic growth, continued restructuring of its economy regardless of political changes, large size of the Polish market, highly skilled and well educated labour force, rich natural resources, an agricultural potential and developing industrial base. All this provides a great scope for our economies to become even stronger, multifaceted and advanced to provide basis for establishment of co-operation for generation of mutual benefits.
The city of Karachi, centre of commerce, industry and business of Pakistan is playing a major role in Polish-Pakistani trade and economic relations. I hope that undertakings of our Consulate in Karachi will serve the mutual interest of the business communities besides the people of the countries.
I call upon the business community of our countries, chambers of commerce and industries to extend their maximum support in developing mutually beneficial economic co-operation and sincerely wish Pakistani and Polish community, success in establishing continued economic links. I believe that the proposal initiated will produce results and bring prosperity and profits to our enterprises as well as to Polish and Pakistani economies.
May the cordial relations that have been in existence for almost fifty years in all areas especially in trade remain sustained and cemented in the years to come.
