CBI Project Manager Bas Van den Brink held a meeting with the Smeda's experts the other day at its head office to design a project regarding export potential of the small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) of Pakistan. Dutch Embassy Economic and Commercial Affairs First Secretary Ms Bajkje Dijkstar also accompanied Bas Van den Brink.
In the meeting Special Projects Director Anjum Ahmad led the Smeda's team. The other members included Provincial Chief Alamgir Chaudhary, Manager Donor Co-ordination and International Linkages Imran Chaudhary and Manager Policy Planning Asim Saeed, said a Smeda spokesman on Wednesday. Deputy Director Syed Javed Akhtar represented the EPB.
Speaking on the occasion, CBI Project Manager Bas Van den Brink said his organisation was keen to collaborate with Smeda and EPB to have more imports from Pakistan into European Union market. He asked Smeda to share his research on various sectors of SMEs bearing significant export potential.
He assured them to initiate a series of meetings to evolve a viable strategy for increasing flow of Pakistan's exports from Pakistan to European market. He also offered CBI's market information, company matching and training programmes for benefit of the local SMEs.
Smeda Director Special Projects Anjum Ahmad welcomed the CBI official and apprised him about the initiatives and strategies introduced by Smeda for development of SMEs in Pakistan. He said the Smeda was currently busy in conducting value chain analysis of seven sectors to address the issues and problems to be confronted by them.
These sectors included gem & jewellery, dairy, fisheries, marble & granite, furniture, textile and light engineering, he added. He assured of the best co-operation on behalf of Smeda to design projects for mutual business interests with CBI.
