Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday called on President of Singapore, S. R. Nathan and discussed bilateral issues, peace and security in the region. In the around 45 minutes talks, they also discussed economic and trade relations between the two countries. The Prime Minister said Pakistan desired peace in the region so that South Asia reaches its true potential. He said all regions of Asia have to play their role to achieve this objective. Shaukat Aziz also called for settlement of political disputes so that there is an increase in economic co-operation. He said that there was a need to move towards dispute resolution rather than dispute management in the region.
Prime Minister also conveyed the greetings of President Musharraf to the Singaporean President. Meanwhile a delegation of investors from the Temasek Holdings Inc called on the Prime Minister here at his hotel.
Shaukat Aziz urged the investors to take advantage of the numerous investment opportunities offered by Pakistan and develop stronger economic bonds between the two countries. Madam Ho Chinn, CEO of Temasek and wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, along with a 16-member delegation from Singapore Airlines, Singapore Telecom, Shipyard Neptune, Singapore Port Authority and Chairman of DBS Bank, met the Prime Minister to discuss investment prospects in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister assured the delegation that there would be no U-turns and the government strongly believes in continuation of policies. He also invited them to Pakistan to see the opportunities for investors.
The delegation members complimented Pakistan on its reforms and stated they were looking for consistency and continuity of policies.
Temasek Holding is already in Pakistan and known as sophisticated and professional investors. It is an Asian investment company headquartered in Singapore and manages a diversified global portfolio of Singaporean $90 billion, spanning Singapore, Asia and the OECD economies.
The meeting was also attended by Minister for Ports and Shipping, Babar Ghauri, Minister for Industries, Jehangir Tareen, Chairmen Board of Investment and Export Promotion Bureau.
