We have seen examples of actors-turned-singers like Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha in Bollywood. The same can be seen in Lollywood and the other way around. Pakistan is also blessed with so many multitalented stars, who started their careers as singers but then turned into brilliant actors later on.
Meet some of them here:
Ali Zafar: The model, painter, singer and actor came to fore with his first album ‘Huqqa Paani’ released in 2003. Later, the talented star form Pakistan switched his attention to acting and played the lead role in an Indian movie called ‘Tere Bin Laden’ in 2010 and then again under a bigger banner along with Katrina Kaif and Imran Khan in ‘Mere Brother ki Dulhan’.
Atif Aslam: The megastar of Pakistan’s young generation started his singing career through a band. After performing at their college and at various restaurants, they eventually formed a band named 'Jal’. Their first song debut was ‘Aaadat’. By the time he launched his solo career. He globalized himself in the entire world. His first movie debut as an actor was ‘Bol’ in 2011. He has also made special appearances in film songs. This film is among the 10 highest grossing Pakistani movies.
Fawad Khan: The good looking actor shot to fame as lead vocalist of the rock band ‘Entity Paradigm’ in Pakistan where he performed in the third season of Coke Studio with song ‘Bolo Bolo’. Khan dissociated himself from the band completely in 2012. He had featured in numerous Pakistani television dramas include ‘Dastaan’, ‘Humsafar’, ‘Ashk’. His chief achievement was his role in the Shoaib Mansoor’s movie Khuda Kay Liye (2007) co-starring Bollywood veteran Naseeruddin Shah.
Adeel Chaudhry: He is a Pakistani dentist, singer-songwriter, actor and model who has appeared in several television serials and Bollywood films. He started his showbiz career as a singer. His first song for Bollywood was ‘Move Your Body Now’ appeared in ‘Kismat Connection’ and many other songs in Pakistan “kisay Awaz Doon’, “Aj Raat Ruk Ja’. He began his career in Pakistani serial ‘Yeh Zindagi hai'.
Farhan Saeed: Farhan was the former lead vocalist of the Pakistani band ‘Jal’. He has sung in Urdu, Punjabi and English. Farhan started his acting career by debuting in a leading role in 'De Ijazat Jo Tu‘, ‘Meray Ajnabi’ and ‘Udaari’.
Junaid Khan: He started his career as a lead vocalist in a band named ‘Call’. After his dynamic success as a singer both as a pop star in Pakistan and as a playback singer in India, he tried his luck in the field of acting. His acting debut was ‘Kabhi Na Kabhi’ which earned Junaid a huge fan following.
Goher Mumtaz: He is the founder of the renowned band ‘Jal’ as well as a singer, lyricist and guitarist. We now get to see him try his hands at acting with his debut in “Kountry Luv” and a couple of other dramas. His work in the drama “Tanhai” as the main lead was appreciated by all. His upcoming project is entitled “Cookie“, a drama written by Umera Ahmed.
Komal Rizvi: Komal started singing when she was a teenager and finally won the Best Female Vocalist in 2011. Her songs are heard with great pleasure especially in Coke Studio sessions. Hum TV’s dramas have had Komal in many of their plays namely; ‘Lehrein’, ‘Teesra Peher’ and ‘Samander Hai Darmiyan’ among others.
Amanat Ali: He started receiving training in music from the early age of six. Amanat Ali has featured in a number of soundtracks for various TV shows including Shaam (2009), Dil Ko Manana Aaya Nahin (2011), Hum Parindey (2012), Raju Rocket (2012) and Ishq Samander (2013). He made his debut as an actor with TV serial ‘Hum Parindey’ on TV One in 2012.
Asim Azhar: The 18-year-old, also referred to as Pakistani Justin Beiber, started recording music just a couple of years ago. His cover of ‘A Team’ originally sung by Ed Sheeran, made his career skyrocket with Ed himself tweeting words of praise about the song. Asim Azhar is also a part of Coke Studio. He has recently shared the screen with Farhan Saeed in drama ‘Teri Chah Mein’.
