Falling trend was seen in the open market on Wednesday as the rupee shed five paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at 60.70 and 60.80, dealers said. Since the oil prices started rising in the global markets, the dollar demands increased in the local market as payments turned higher, money experts said. As a result of rising dollar demand, the gap between the official and open markets rates widened to rupee one, they added.
Versus the euro, the rupee lost 10 paisa for buying at Rs 76.70 while it maintained its selling level at Rs 76.90, dealers said.
INTERBANK RATES: The rupee maintained its last level versus the dollar for buying and selling at 59.53 and 59.54, dealers said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee maintained downward trend, and registered a loss of five paisa in its value on buying side at Rs 60.75, while gained five paisa on selling side at Rs 60.85 in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets on Wednesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at Rs 60.70 and Rs 60.90 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. As a result of fresh demand for the dollar, its rate marginally improved to Rs 60.75 on buying side, while it declined to Rs 60.85 on selling side as compared to Rs 60.70 and Rs 60.90 of Tuesday, the dealers said.
On the contrary, the rupee recovered some of its earlier loss, and showed strength against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased at Rs 111.50, and sold at Rs 112.00 as compared to Rs 111.60 and Rs 112.00 of Tuesday, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar was up by 20 paisa against the rupee in the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Wednesday.
The greenback opened at Rs 60.70 (buying) and Rs 60.80 (selling) against the last rate of Rs 60.50 (buying) and Rs 60.60 (selling). It did not observe any further change in the second spell, and closed at Rs 60.70 (buying) and Rs 60.80 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 111.50 (buying) and Rs 111.60 (selling) against the overnight value. It did not observe any change in the second session, and closed at Rs 111.50 (buying) and Rs 111.60 (selling).
