Pakistan Communication Industries (PCI), a subsidiary of Telecom Foundation of Pakistan Tele- communication Company Ltd on Wednesday inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company for manufacture of wireless pay phones in Pakistan. Tina Cao, general manager of the Chinese firm and Mohammad Arif Khan, chief executive PCI signed the MoU on behalf of their companies, while vice chairman Hu Xiangui and senior production manager Mohammad Shahzad Hassan were also present on the occasion. According to the agreement, the Chinese firm will provide Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless pay phones with all modern features and facilities available in the international market, as per PCI specification.
It will also hold field trials and demonstrations for Pakistani customers.
After successful trials, the phone set will be approved by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and then procured by the PCI in batches as per requirement, on competitive prices.
Keeping in view the requirement of TF pay phone business, the Chinese company will provide training to PCI engineers for software and hardware for assembling of the set, and setting up the facility in Pakistan for this purpose.
