Institute of Bankers Pakistan (IBP) has set up its first co-ordinating office in Kabul, Afghanistan as a sequel to appointment of its 20 overseas co-ordinators in Europe, America, Asia and Canada by Dr Ishrat Husain, Governor, State Bank of Pakistan for capacity building and human resource enrichment in banks and financial institutions. The launching ceremony was performed by Noorullah Dilawari, Governor, Da Afghanistan Bank. Ambassador of Pakistan was also present at Kabul branch of National Bank of Pakistan.
Dilawari highlighted training needs of bankers in Afghanistan and spoke of step being taken to bring professionalism and quality in banking. He hoped knowledge association between IBP and Da Afghanistan Bank will serve cause of professionalism in banking and financial services.
IBP Chief Executive, Muhammad Saleem Umer gave overview of IBP explained its international knowledge endeavours and programme of technical support for Afghanistan.
He offered to extend full support from IBP for setting up Institute of Bankers Afghanistan and develop a team of professionals and groom them to take independent charge within 2 to 3 years.
To supplement knowledge endeavors he proposed compilation and printing of bilingual Glossary of Banking and Finance in English and Dari language. The offer and initiatives were highly appreciated by Governor, Da Afghanistan Bank.
IBP also organised 2-day training programme for executives and officers of Afghanistan International Bank and launched first of series of seminars on "International Best Practices in Banking" at Training Institute of Afghanistan Bank.
IBP chief also met John Haye, President, Bankers Association of Afghanistan and discussed initiatives relating to professionalism in banking and finance.
