The acquisition of F-22 frigates will equip the fleet with moderation surface platforms with state-of-the-art sensors and weaponry and will provide much needed flexibility including joint operations with allied navies. The ongoing purchase of 08 P3Cs, Phalanx close in weapon systems and harpoon missiles will largely augment Pakistan's Navy's maritime interdiction, antisubmarine and antimissile defence capabilities. Chairman Senate, Mohammad-mian Soomro said this while addressing the convocation ceremony of 34th Staff Course at Pakistan Navy War College here on Friday.
He maintained that the government is fully alive to meet the requirements of our Navy and making efforts to strengthen Pakistan Navy Fleet. 'Pakistan being strategically located at mouth of Hormuz and with the milieu of upcoming Gwadar Port, Pakistan Navy would be entrusted with added responsibilities to ensure that the sea frontiers are safeguarded during both peace and war.
Sea is the common heritage of mankind and is inextricably linked to economic prosperity of nation. Navy has played a significant role in war on terror by participating in the operation enduring freedom. These efforts have contributed in deterring terrorists from using Pakistan's coastline and water for their hideous activities', he added.
Soomro further said that eminence of a country's armed forces today is not only a measure of its ability to maintain peace or stability but capacity to respond to natural disasters as well.
Chairman Senate emphasised upon the graduating officers to maintain high standard of professionalism and to selflessly discharge their sacred duty of safeguarding the sea frontiers.
Earlier, Commandant PN War College Commodore, Agha Danish apprised the audience about the curriculum and training programme.
Later, the chief guest conferred degrees upon the graduating officers which included 65 PN, 2 each from Pakistan Army, PAF and 12 officers from friendly countries of Bahrain, China, Nigeria, Palestine, Philippine, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkey and UAE.
Rector, Bahria University Vice Admiral Fayyaz ur Rehman (Retd), senior naval officers and officials from the allied countries also attended the convocation.
