An accountability court on Saturday adjourned to June 4, the proceedings in a reference against former federal minister and PPP secretary-general Jehangir Badr, as his petition is pending with the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Additional District and Sessions Judge, Lahore, has issued notices to SSP (Operation) and SHO Gulberg in a petition filed by human rights activist Asma Jehangir, seeking the registration of criminal cases against police officials, who allegedly outraged her modesty.
The petitioner contended that she approached the respondent SHO Gulberg for registration of criminal cases but he failed to entertain her request. She, therefore, approached SSP (Operation) but he also refused to direct the respondent SHO to register criminal case against the respondent police officials.
She, therefore prayed to the court to direct the respondents to get registered criminal case against the respondent police officials who maltreated her during the rally on May 16 at Main Boulevard.
Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court (LHC), while directing member Board of Revenue (BoR) to issue necessary directions to his subordinates to redress of grievances of the people within reasonable period, has observed that if statutory authorities would not exercise their powers, it would create chaos.
The court passed these directions in a petition filed by one Yousaf Baig against Tehsildar, who did not issue copy of 'Fard Milkiyat' to the petitioner, despite repeated requests.
